Blog Index Issue

Hi, I’m having an annoying situation with my Blog Index Page, I think I know why but I’m hoping that there’s a sanity-saving work around?

My blog to a certain extent will be formulaic from post to post ie: The structure of the blog posts has a header image in the same place, title, date, embedded video, a browsable PDF near the footer.

With that in mind, it makes a lot of sense to just use the ‘Duplicate Page’ button in Sitely, then do any modifications to a blog post to make it unique eg: Change the header graphic, embed a new video in the iframe code box etc.

So, it would all be going well, except that a duplicated blog post tends to fix its preview graphic and info on the Blog Index page, and when I’ve tailored the copied new blog post, with a different graphic, title etc, those changes don’t update in the Blog Index.

That’s frustrating. Probably user error, so If you know how I resolve this, please advise. Thanks

Ok, so I’ve managed to figure out what the problem was. My next question (which might as well stay in this one) is: Is it possible to arrange the RSS preview images so that they don’t stack vertically in the Blog Index page? There are handles on the box but they don’t respond to mouse drags or clicks

Great you figured out your first question @hiab-x
The second one for now is a no… For now Sitely stacks the Blog Index posts. For me I have found no way around it, but really really really hoping that we can in the near future!!! :crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers::folded_hands:

Thanks FlaminFig. Maybe you can advise on another Blog related vexation? My Menu is simple:
Home About Blog
In an ideal world Blog would just take the user to Blog Index only and from there they would be able to navigate whatever’s in that page.
Instead, clicking Blog makes a dropdown that offers Blog Index and then evefy blog post created thus far. As my site is likely to have a growing number of blog posts, I can see that this isn’t going to be ideal. This is further compounded by the fact that the Blog Index thumbnails and mini-blurbs don’t appear to contain active links to the posts themselves.

I suspect user error on my part, but I’d love to know where I’ve gone wrong.
Erm, yes, I’m also starting to keep my fingers crossed that the Blog section gets some refinement in a future update.

There are two ways you can get around this, but firstly how have you set up your main navigation? Have you used Sitely’s Menu, or have you used Buttons?

Hello again. I used Sitely’s menu. I’m going to guess that I’d be better off making buttons?

No, the Sitely Menu will work as well.

So I’ll give you some guiding steps to turn the main navigation into what you’d like to see..

What you see on the right, the Menu is draggable plus you can hide parts of the Menu. So with a bit of dragging and using the Eye Icon, you want something like this…

Once done you will see that your main navigation will take you to the Blog Index page, instead of seeing a dropdown with a long list of blog posts. :+1:
