How-to make a Star Rating in Sitely

I am creating a customer review page and would like to use a star rating similar to the following. Any ideas on how to do it?

This isn’t something that Sitely can do natively, but it’s relatively simple to create and embed a widget into your pages that will accept a star rating from users and save it to a csv file where it calculates an average rating and displays in your page.

If you can tell me what hosting/server or where your site is hosted, I can work out whether PHP/CSV is possible and give you the complete copy-and-paste star-rating system - PHP file + Sitely Code snippet

Later, changing its location and/or adjusting its size etc. can be done with Sitely pop-ups, although it requires some effort. I don’t know if it can connect to any database?

How the Rating System Works

Once your website is published, visitors can select a rating from one to five stars. When a visitor submits a rating:

  1. The rating is sent to the PHP script on your server.

  2. The rating is saved to a CSV file.

  3. The system calculates the average rating for that particular item or page.

  4. The updated average is sent back to the widget.

  5. The widget displays the average rating numerically and graphically using
    fully or partially filled stars.

The CSV file is created automatically when the first rating is submitted, so there is no need to create or configure it manually, and there is no need for a database..

Preventing Multiple Ratings

The system includes measures designed to discourage multiple ratings of the same item by the same visitor.

It uses a combination of browser-based storage and an anonymous server- side visitor identifier to help prevent duplicate ratings.

However, like most simple website-based rating systems, this is not completely foolproof. A visitor may potentially submit another rating by, for example, using a different browser or device.

The system is therefore intended as a straightforward and practical rating solution for general website use, rather than a high-security voting system.
