If you edit one page of your site and republish it, does Sitely upload the whole site or just the edited page?
Well so far as I know the whole document, but it ist faster in upload because there aren’t that much changes. But for your project it’s indifferent or do I miss something?
Hi @adrianskehan, this has been discussed several times, for example here:
Thanks for that, Duncan.
I have updated part of my site, an ongoing process for family history information. My problem is that up until now, it has taken a matter of minutes to upload an update; however, I initiated this last one at 3:15 p.m. yesterday, and it is now 08:30 a.m. The publishing progress bar indicates that it has uploaded about 20%.
I recently had an issue with my Router and replaced it; the new one is marginally faster than its predecessor. I contacted the cPanel technicians and, after jumping through all their hoops with no result, they increased the upload speed, which changed it from over 5 minutes to upload 1% to about three minutes.
I have always kept my Sitely data on a 1 TB SSD drive so that I can take it with me on extended trips. I have initiated the current upload attempt on my MacBook Pro, but the upload speed is the same.
Right now, it has me totally flummoxed.
Just a thought… Have you neared the limit of your purchased hosting space?
I have experienced that a few times with Sitely, and then realising I was close to my limit… by increasing the limit everything worked fine again.
I have only used 2.79% of my quota. (its a small site)
Ok, you have heaps of space!
Another thing you could try is totally remove your existing website from your hosting server via cPanel, and when done have Sitely republish your site back up to your sever…
It’s possible the problem is related to your connection speed, but it could also be a lack of processing power if your Mac is quite old.
Did you change the site settings to generate AVIF images? (Settings > Images > AVIF). Regardless of your internet connection speed, converting images to AVIF can take a significant amount of time if you have an older Mac. If you have enabled it, try selecting “WebP” or “None” instead and try uploading your site again.
Alternatively, to see if it’s more likely a connection speed issue, you can try the following: Still in the Image Settings, try adjusting the settings to their minimum values to see if this speeds up the process:
- Change “Automatic” to “1x”
- JPEG/PNG Compression: Set to “Best Compression”
- Modern Image Formats: Set to “None”
Since images and videos usually take up the most space, try changing these settings to check if it improves the upload time.
All the hardware is definitely getting old (2019) is I have ordered a new iMac with as much fruit installed they have on offer, eye watering expense. I will let the current process run for the time bering and see what happens and revisit the situation when the new machine arrives.
Thanks to all for your assistance.
Could you send the project so we can take a look? swisstransfer.com to feedback@sitely.app
I occasionally have a very slow upload which I can spot very early. When I do, I stop the upload and try later. It usually goes much more quickly.
Thanks RicC.
The problem is resolved. It turned out that the replacement router (replaced due to a lightning strike event) needed to be optimised, and I had included a couple of videos that were in the wrong format or the web and far too large; my ISP sorted the router out and I changed the video to a more web friendly format.
