Having been away for a while I’m trying to figure out how to rethink my use of a personal site.
With varying success I’ve used first Sparkle and now Sitely for years. Duncan has always been responsive and patient but before I shell out for renewing my web hosting I wonder if anyone can offer some advice. Most of what one sees on the web these days is posted by people selling things, which is fine, I don’t mind buying when I know what it’s for. My reluctance in renewing is the lack of an easy blogging method here. I’m a playwright, I’m not interested in marketing but in being able to connect with people who know my work so I can engage with them going forward. Yes, there’s the blog page structure but it’s always seemed cumbersome and overkill, unless one is posting a long piece, which I do but want to be able to post brief thoughts and updates, plus links to other places, easily and more frequently. Is there already a method and I don’t know or understand it? I have a substack and my own site till now has been an archive of what I post there. In which case why do I also need a site? I’ve read the pros and cons and I’m aware that substack can take a turn to the dark side like so many others but even so it offers notes and recordings, quick and easy ways to connect. Or, for example’ do I sue bluesy for that and embed it in Sitely? Is that a thing? Can I do the same with substack? A website is static; I’m hoping that I can find a way to use Sitely in a more casually engaging manner or am I asking of the app what it isn’t intended to provide? Anyone using it to blog?
Thanks.
