I noticed that loads/plays on mobile testing were delayed starting while “loading” for the first time (a little bit) and was wondering how to speed it up?
I used .wav files (bigger but preferred) would .mp3 make any difference? Are the larger files slowing my site down in this or other ways?
Alternative - I can use an offsite player embedded but it doesn’t look as nice…
Second question - is anyone able to copy/steal the files or are they encrypted for the player?
Considering a wav generally is about 10x the size of the equivalent mp3, yes the size is definitely a factor. The slow down should only be for the audio playback.
There is no way to prevent the audio files from being downloaded I’m afraid.
If you want to sell them, just put fade-in / fade-out 30-second clips on, as a teaser. Right now, if I liked your music, there’s no reason to go and spend money on it, as you have given the entire song away for free with no copyright notice.
This will also affect file size.
Finally, apart from size, if you are offering free teasers, it is better to put mp3s on there anyway, rather than giving away uncompressed files.
