FTP Issues when making small changes

I have a website I update regularly. I do try and manage a blog however as a separate topic I personally find the blog tool in Sitely leaves a lot to be desired and falls short of a usable intuitive tool in my opinion. Anyway back to topic, I enjoy Sitely and between its faults it’s a good reliable tool to use.

I do however have one issue, when I upload via FTP changes to my site (or any sites, I have multiple) it fails to over write or replace my exiting website files. I am forced to use Cyberduck FTP to go and delete everything and then upload my website as a brand new site. Is there a work around for this? It takes a long time to do this I’m assuming a setting must exist that allows for recursive upload of only changes made?.

Any advice is really appreciated.

Ok, that is a strange one @Chrisb

I’ve had no issues with updating all my Sitely sites with the built in FTP out in the wild, so could the issue be more to do with your host?

When making changes on the Sitely canvas and uploading, it doesn’t only upload the change you made but also the other devices you have created that contains that new change, and the CSS to those pages. So I guess that little change should be a quick upload, but there is more to it then that one page.

But what you are explaining is somewhat weird, so I think it would be best to contact @duncan at feedback@sitely.app explaining the situation and support it with sceenshot(s)/a project file.

I occasionally have upload issues as well. Restarting Sitely has often helped in my case.

Hi @Chrisb, what do you mean specifically with “fail to overwrite”? Do you get an error message?

No it never gives me an error message and it looks as though it’s doing a normal upload. However when I then navigate to see my website it’s no longer available. I end up using a separate FTP application to then remove everything from the server and then re upload the entire site to overcome this.

it happens on all my sites for some reason.

Also, do you have a roadmap for any improvements to the blogging tool?

Sorry but I’m really not sure what’s going on. No longer available as in? You get a “not found” error from the server? When you upload via FTP do you rename any file? Or is the upload folder a long living folder where you have exported the site multiple times?

My best theory is you might be missing a page designated as “home page”, and the folder exported to disk has an old copy.

But there’s not enough detail or information to have a full picture.

While we’re always working on improving every aspect of Sitely all the time, we don’t have a public roadmap to share.
