Has Sparkle been sold?

Today I received a notification that Sparkle version 5.6 was available. Couldn’t find it on Sparkle’s website but after a little sleuthing, I discovered that it was available at https://sitely.app. Their website has links back to Sparkle, this user community is available over there as well and they’re saying that Sparkle is now Sitely.

Searched Sparkle’s website for “sitely” and found nothing. What’s going on?

This is not looking good either which way! :frowning:
I have heard nothing in regards that Sparkle has turned into Sitely. God I hope it isn’t true - I mean Sparkle having been sold off!

It even has "Copyright ©2024 Crinon SRL" at the bottom of the website page? :pensive:
So far I can’t find anywhere that Sitely has obtained Sparkle or that they have acquired Sparkle.

The “Check for Updates” facility of Sparkle has not been working all day (Monday). I wondered if their server had gone down. How do we update if the Updates facility is unavailable?

Hello, what a discovery!

I was wondering why there have been fewer updates lately, and now I understand why.

The situation is indeed intriguing. After some research, several elements lead me to believe it’s simply a rebranding:

  1. On the homepage, the button linking to a presentation video leads to a YouTube video where the description states: “(this is an old video that might reference Sitely’s previous name, Sparkle).” Additionally, Sitely.app seems to be a relatively new domain name. This domain apparently wasn’t used (or popular) before 2024.

  2. “Crinon SRL,” the company behind Sparkle, is still mentioned. Moreover, I downloaded the version of Sparkle now called Sitely from this new site. In the “About Sitely” section, the text has been updated, but Duncan and Daniel are still listed under “Engineering and Design.”

So far, I haven’t noticed any difference between Sparkle (version 5.5) and Sitely (version 5.6), apart from the name change.

All this leads me to think it’s not a merger between two companies or even an acquisition, but simply a rebranding. Let’s see what happens next. I hope we’ll get some official news soon.

I’ve made contact with the Sitely website via their given email address…
Funnily enough it keeps on popping open my Email Clients (Mail) with feedback@sparkleapp.com

When you click the Blog link it goes back to the Sparkle app blog page with still the Sparkle name alongside the Sparkle logo. Also both websites are sharing the same Forum. But I have to admit I like the Sitely website far better in visuals and layout.

Like yourself Alan I’ve been also wondering over the last 4-5 weeks. I guess we’ll know soon!..

Oh Blimey! I hope nothing changes as I adore Sparkle!

No Panic…

Hey all, sorry about the panic. You would have found later today anyway. Seems like we mixed the streams somewhere.

We have been forced to rebrand due to some legal issues, but nothing else changes. Same people, same company, same prices, all licenses and upgrades and offers still work.

The Sitely name might sound odd at first but new names always do, give it some time and it will grow on you.

We are still working through the kinks of the new site, but thanks for mentioning the issues you have seen.

Don’t panic!

Thank you @duncan! A big relief.
I hope it all goes smoothy for you & Daniele!

I realized there was something else called Sparkle. They presumably had precedence over the name.
I hope the Check for Updates link is working again soon.

Oh thank goodness! :relieved:

It’s more that there are 2847 active trademarks worldwide (literally, not a made number), and someone too big to fight picked us out.

What a story. That’s really a shame.

The name doesn’t matter. It’s the product that counts!

It’s a shame, but that’s the way the world rolls nowadays … Btw: I hope your legal advisor did a thorough check on the new name, because when I did a quick search for ‘Sitely’ in Google, I ran into a lot of internet/webrelated companies with similar names. If one of those takes offense, the first name change might not be the last. I’ll keep my fingers crossed!

Yeah there are a few but that’s almost inevitable unless the name is entirely made up, and even short made up names will have already been taken. We have a good domain (sitely.app) and a trademark registration with no contenders, so we should be safe.

Good to hear, because all those forced name changes are no blessing for business. I know a good name for some legal firms: Sharkle

If I am being brutally honest, I never did like the name Sparkle, great product, not so great name. Sitely, does sound a bit more professional and is in keeping with what it does. If we could get some influencers onboard to promote it on YouTube etc, now with the new name it might be even more successful.
Just my thoughts.

Thank you for your feedback, @duncan. Looking on the bright side, it’s better this happened now rather than when Sparkle becomes globally recognized! That said, it’s a shame they didn’t allow you to continue using the name until the next major update, it would certainly have been better for marketing…

Good news that everything is moving forward without a a hitch - and sorry you had such issues.
