Issue with Menu and Password Protection

My title isn’t very clear!

I have built a website that has the first few pages open to any casual visitor, and the balance of the pages for signed in visitors only; there are now 5 ‘User Groups’ (originally 4, but I created a new group to test the problem I am experiencing).

The menu for navigating to pages runs across the page, and is composed of two menus - one that shows the pages to casual visitors, and the other to signed-in visitors (for the password-protected pages). The two are grouped to visually form one menu (when signed in).

This works fine, but it now seems that for certain User Groups (in this case, “guest” and “visitor”) the ‘signed-in’ portion of the menu does not show, despite the settings being the same (as far as I can tell) as for the other User Groups that work fine.

Changing the type designation under ‘Edit User Accounts’ to one of the other three User Groups results in expected behaviour.

I can’t figure out why this is happening - is there a limit to the number of ‘User Groups’? Anybody had the same experience?

Hi @jonnogreen, welcome!

Unfortunately user account issues have turned out to be particularly tricky to troubleshoot.

There is no limit to the number of groups so that’s unlikely to be the issue. But it’s hard to say exactly what.

One testing you can do yourself is to use the eye icon in the top-left of the canvas to show canvas elements per-user, a feature that becomes available when you have groups configured in the website. For example:

If you can’t figure it out it’s best if you send us the project (swisstransfer.com to feedback@sitely.app) along with the master password, so we can look into it.

Hi Duncan,

Thank you for the quick response!

The tip regarding visibility of elements per user was very helpful for discovering a few I had missed, but it does seem the issue lies with the ‘in-built smart functions’, namely the site search function and menu items (although, I also note the logout button isn’t working for all logged in user types, either).

Would you still like me to share the site with you?

That’s probably best yes.
