Ahead of the release of macOS Tahoe and its brand-new design next month, I’d like to share a special project I created for the Sitely community: Mac Simulator.
It all started with a simple question: “Is it possible to recreate the macOS interface using only Sitely popups?”
At first, it was just a little experiment in my spare time. But since popups are often misunderstood or underestimated on the forum, I decided to take the project further, finalize it, and show you what they’re truly capable of.
In short, here’s what the project is:
Built with Sitely 5.6
120 popups used
0 lines of code
The entire site is powered exclusively by popups. Inside the Notes app, you’ll also find a few tips and explanations on how I made it (and since I don’t speak English, I hope this translation works well enough).
The goal wasn’t to reproduce macOS perfectly, but to highlight the power of popups and hopefully inspire those who enjoy building with Sitely.
For the curious: although the project is complex, it will be made available for download with the next Sitely update. A few bugs were discovered during development, but they’ve already been fixed and won’t be an issue when it’s released.
Allan, as a relative newbie to Sitely the brilliant stuff you contribute here IS genuinely inspirational. When I began exploringing Sitely the pop ups were the very first element I was determined to master. Knowing you built the simulator with 120 pop ups is absolutely mind boggling ! The Mac OS simulation is brilliant. But your song about Sitely and your “follow-up single” about Wordpress puts you in the Hall of Fame for Artiste Extraodinaire…As your countrymen might say…Magnifique!
And also, thank you for your generosity for your many contributions here sharing your know how. As a Brit in Toronto versed in the phrase “pardon my French”…Merci beaucoup!
@FlaminFig Thank you so much! ! Nooo, I definitely didn’t sing myself, if I had, everyone’s ears would be bleeding The music was made with Suno, an AI.
@Mick A big thank you for your kind words! As I mentioned above, the songs were created with AI. The real work for me was writing lyrics that made sense and actually rhymed, all in Shakespeare’s language, which I don’t speak at all That part was also made possible with the help of AI, but it wasn’t easy, and I’m still not sure about the final result.
Thanks again for your message, and welcome to the Sitely community!
@duncan Well, that’s the best compliment you could possibly give me!
@selcuk Thanks, nice work too! Your project made me realize I forgot to add the app names above the dock icons. But I’m afraid to add more stuff, I’m already wondering how the site performs on older computers with the current 120 popups
This is such a great work, the only thing missing is the font.
Would be amazing if you shared the project file to take a look at how you have accomplished all of those things as each one has its own ace at their sleeve.
For compatibility reasons, I can’t share it just yet. But as I mentioned in the introduction post, the project will be available for download once the next Sitely update is released
