Since a few month I have a problem with embedded Soundcloud and YouTube media.
Without changing anything on my site, the soundcloud player looks huge, and the display of YouTube videos is also much to large.
Actually the whole sites using SoundCloud players and YouTube videos are messed up.
It’s not on all computers, and not all the time, but it happens in Safari and Crome.
Is this a known issue? It started a few month ago.
Here you can have a look yourself:
It’s on this site and all others using these embedded media players.
Would be great to hear your feedback.
Does this site look correct on you browser?
On my side, the players display at the same size whether I use Chrome, Safari, or Firefox.
Could you please share two screenshots — one showing the correct size and another showing the “too large” size?
Hi Allan,
Wow, thanks for your fast reply.
I have a picture of the “too large” size.
I could make a correct size picture from the Sparkle App, if if you see it correctly, you should see the difference.
Oh, yes, I see what you mean. It looks like your site layout has started adapting to a smaller screen (either automatically or manually), and your browser is currently showing that version (mobile or tablet). The issue is that YouTube and SoundCloud elements are designed to be “responsive,” meaning they adapt to the screen size, and therefore appear larger on mobile devices. That’s why they look oversized.
I recommend either disabling the small device layout in Sitely, or customizing it manually and rebuilding the smartphone layout of your site (this is the better option, though more time-consuming). By customizing the layout, you can place elements one on top of the other, making navigation much easier on smaller screens.
Here’s how I usually recommend handling layouts in Sitely:
• Ultra-wide desktop PCs: No Layout
• Desktop PCs: Custom Layout
• Landscape tablets: Automatic
• Portrait tablets: Automatic
• Landscape smartphones: Automatic
• Portrait smartphones: Custom Layout
Yes!! I think thats it.
The Portrait Smartphone was set to “scale automatic” by mistake.
I tested it on several computers and browsers. The issue seems to be gone.
Wow, problem solved with a single click. Fantastic.
Allan, if you ever come to cologne, I ow you a schnitzel and a beer.
