This probably isn’t a Sitely thing, but I’m trying to changing hosting services and SFTP publish a site to a folder that is NOT yet connected to the domain. (just to test it). The domain is on a 60 day lock with the current/old registrar.
All the connections seem to work and it finds my root directory and lets me select the destination folder - but at that point I get this error - The selected folder is not published to…(myweb address)
I strongly suspect it’s not going to work until the domain and the hosting are connected - can someone confirm that’s the case? Of course I can brute force it from a export to disk published version via Cyberduck etc.
well it is a Sitely issue in the sense that Sitely requires the domain to be connected to the hosting space in order to check the correct setup. This is an annoying restriction, but it saves a ton of grief down the road, because once the check passes you can be sure that publishing will put your pages on the web.
We hopefully improved the language a bit in the upcoming update, it now says “The selected folder isn’t the server-designated folder for…”. This is still far from perfect and perhaps the next step is an illustration of the different moving parts, in your case the folder is likely correct, but the server isn’t.
And yes exporting to disk and uploading with an FTP app would help you be ready on day 1, when the domain old is lifted.
