Hello, I really like the password protection page feature and being able to have usernames and passwords for specific page access. I understand you can create groups and manually add one user at a time. Is it possible to upload a CSV or txt file with maybe 100 users to the password protection settings and have it automatically create those for me? Columns for the CSV can match the necessary information (name, password, group, etc.).
Hi @Settide
No, unlike the dropdown selection feature where you can import data via a CSV file, this isn’t currently possible for managing users in the password protection settings. Users have to be added manually, one at a time.
I’m not sure if this feature will ever be added, since importing login credentials from a CSV file containing plain-text passwords isn’t considered secure. Best practices recommend that passwords be hashed as soon as they’re created, which makes it difficult to import them from a simple text file. Unless you know exactly which hashing method Sitely uses (and can reproduce it in your CSV), it would be hard to ensure both compatibility and security…
Thanks for the insight @Allan . It would be nice to either have a tool where they can create their username and password and it be added, or, I can upload a sheet. I understand the differences with security. May have to settle with manually adding for now, but doing this for hundreds of users is not optimal.
Sure, I understand. What I’m really hoping for is a feature that allows online registration, so that visitors can sign up themselves without any action needed on our part.
