Weird PayPal and suggestion for options

I built a small store on my film website with Sitely using the Paypal option. Everything looked and worked perfect…then after only maybe 6 hours got a message from Paypal that they permanently banned/closed my account. Only got 2 sales in and they are holding the funds for 180 days. No answer on why and they will not let me open another. Seems very suspect and I also have other PayPal accounts for my biz. So now I am going to try and different option and bypass PayPal all together. Has anyone used Stripe? Or does anyone have any other alternatives . I need to build the store on the site for these 4 items the rest is being done in Ecwid.

Many thanks for the advice.

That’s odd. I do use Stripe on a couple sites and have not had any issues. It’s easier and cheaper, too.

As long as whatever you’re selling isn’t on their prohibited list I would think you’d not have any issues.

Good luck,

I, too, would use Stripe for the same reasons. Can I ask, is there a reason you aren’t using Ecwid for these four items if you already have an account and are using it for your other products?

Yes..I have Ecwid hooked to another store that I am building. The items I am selling here are just a few pieces from our film TURA! like film posters—the T-shirts etc will be used on POD with Ecwid.

Hi-

Question. What did you put in the Stripe publishable key the secret live or standard live key?

I have tried both and the pay buttons still do not work??

Sort of confused

Could you not open another Ecwid account with the amount of products you want to sell, it would qualify for the free account as I think the limit is 5 items. That may solve your issue.

We have been using paypal since its inception.

PayPay is the Devil. I have warned you.

On a side note I’ve been checking out Ecwid, Shopify and Big Cartel. I think Shopify’s starter plan may be the best fit since it lets me sell directly from Sitely using their buy buttons and if there are multiple buy buttons on the site it’ll work like a built in shopping cart (ala snipcart).

You may want to explore that for better ease of use and it’s $5 a month with no limits on products: Shopify Starter Plan - Shopify.

An example of a Sitely site using Shopify in this way with their buy buttons is here: Shop

Big Cartel is great but it doesn’t do any embedding or buy buttons. They do have a free plan with up to five products though.

Ray,

does Shopify’s starter plan let you do any inventory management? I’m running weekly tournaments and I have to limit it to 24 players. I’m using Snipcart in conjunction with Stripe; Snipcart manages the inventory and Stripe takes the payment. But Snipcart’s developer sold to another company and they haven’t had any updates for a couple of years and it’s gone down a couple of times this year. I wouldn’t mind replacing it with something better if it integrates easily with Sitely.

ABSOLUTELY!

I too have been using since its start. They permanently suspend my account after 3 hours! No reason…nothing. Called and spoke to human and she was very dodgy saying they will not now or ever give me an explanation! They are keeping my $ for 6 months…then they will review. I tell ya I am beyond horrified.Exploring further seems they have several pending lawsuits for this very thing. I guess I was lucky… sales were stopped after about 3…or I could have been wiped out.

I will never ever touch PayPal again for anything. I suggest people heed this as a warning when opening a new online store. :face_with_symbols_on_mouth:

Thank you for the feedback Ray-

I chose Stripe…a little tricky to set up but really like it so far.

:slightly_smiling_face:

Thank you so much for that info…I will keep this in mind.

I could but we are trying to keep the accounts separate . One store is for our film with Original film related items and the other is my own for a different company.

Chuck,

Standard inventory management and reports are included as far as I know. I would do their free trial and make sure it’s still that way and see if it fits you.
